Our Concept

"International Management Studies in the Baltic Sea Region (BMS)" is an international 4-year Bachelor degree course completely taught in English, which focuses on the Baltic Sea Region (Denmark, Estonia, Finland, Germany, Latvia, Lithuania, Poland, Norway, Russia, Sweden)

The initial 4 semesters of our programme introduce students to general business administration (such as cost accounting, economics, mathematics and law) and focuses on international management theory, cross-cultural management, corporate finance and the history and development of the Baltic Sea Region.

To allow students to acquire special competence and deepen their skills, in the 5th and 6th semesters, students have to choose 2 of 4 Majors, viz. Management and Innovation, International finance and trade, Markets and communication as well as German Business.

As for languages studied, Business English is compulspory; as is one language from the Baltic Sea Region - Norwegian, Polish, Russian or Swedish - and our international students study German as a Foreign Language.

BMS is highly practice-oriented due to 13-week pre-study practical before you join, guest lectures, working on real projects, organization of special events, national and international excursions, one semester abroad is mandatory (either as study or internship semester) and an obligatory 20-week internship. Final-year students write a dissertation on international topics, which finalises their preparation for an international career.

Baltic Sea Forum

The Baltic Sea Forum, an international symposium organised by students of the third semester BMS, celebrated its 20th anniversary in 2014, enjoying great popularity and a good reputation, not only in the region of Mecklenburg-Vorpommern, but also worldwide.

I am studying International Management Studies in the Baltic Sea Region (BMS), because...

"I needed a change.

After I finished my apprenticeship and worked for half a year in Frankfurt, I had an inner urge to deepen my knowledge and gain new experiences. I decided to study at the farthermost university within Germany to get out of my comfort zone.

The university offers a range of international partnerships and opportunities to study or work abroad. It is a good starting point to gain international experiences and to build up a network with students from many different countries. "

"... it is, first of all, fully taught in English and provides the opportunity to study many other different languages such as Norwegian, or Russian. Moreover, I enjoyed the diversity of different cultures and nationalities. Apart from that, some professors really inspired me to pursue a career in finance due to their motivational way of teaching. It is a good course to kick start an international career if you are really willing to do so.

At the University of Applied Science Stralsund I have the possibility of getting to know my professors, sit in small classes, enjoy a good study atmosphere and shape my Bachelor program in a way that I would have never been able to have done at other universities.

The University really gives some freedom to its students that I highly appreciate and I am thankful of."

"... I wanted to work in an international framework and the Bachelor program is unique in Germany.

I am studying Baltic Management Studies because the course gave me the possibility of studying economics and to learn a second language besides English.

I especially like Scandinavian countries and languages."

"... the University combines theory with practice and it is one of the main factors why I've chosen to study here.

Another factor is the size of the University. It is rather small, around 2.000 students, but also a very comfortable place for studying, because you can easily talk to professors, not like in huge Universities, and everyone is open to help. It is a very friendly environment to be in.

There are many sports and social activities on offer for students. And finally, it is situated right by the Baltic Sea, which means fresh air and a peaceful atmosphere."
