The “IT Security and Mobile Systems” degree programme prepares you, as an IT security expert, to shape and protect the digitalisation of our society. You will be responsible for protecting against identity theft, hacking and spoofing, and will identify modern methods for making software and systems more secure. Mobile systems in particular – whether apps, autonomous vehicles or smart home technologies – must be developed with a focus on security. The “IT Security and Mobile Systems” degree programme equips you to understand the challenges of digital mobility, such as security and the smart use of artificial intelligence. Are you passionate about computers and technology and keen to work in an exciting, future-oriented field? Then this degree programme could be just right for you!

Most of us own a smartphone, are constantly online and, as a matter of course, use various online services and social media channels. We surround ourselves with devices that communicate with one another round the clock and are increasingly making decisions autonomously.
The technological developments of recent years bring with them not only opportunities but also security risks. How secure – or vulnerable – are we and our data? The use of networked systems requires an awareness of the threats these systems face, as well as a set of interlinked security measures.
As a graduate of the ‘IT Security and Mobile Systems’ degree programme, you will have a keen focus on the security of the systems you develop. You will be able to design, develop and implement systems, including the appropriate security concepts.
Aims and career prospects
The Bachelor’s degree programme prepares you directly for a career or serves as a foundation for a Master’s degree. A general knowledge of computer science equips you for all areas of software development. Furthermore, the programme’s specialisation opens up further exclusive career opportunities in the fields of IT security, mobile systems and the intersection of these areas.
Job profiles
This degree programme prepares you for positions of responsibility and challenging roles, such as those in the following areas:
- IT security consultancy, analysis and auditing
- Design, implementation, administration and operation of computer networks and information systems, with particular emphasis on security aspects
- Software development, particularly for distributed and mobile applications, taking security aspects into account
- Development of intelligent and secure assistance systems, as well as
- management and leadership roles
Right next door to the real world
Stralsund University of Applied Sciences is a young university with excellent facilities. The university has a wealth of experience in the field of computer science. As a graduate of Stralsund University of Applied Sciences, you will be in high demand among regional and international companies. Many students already work in regional IT companies whilst studying. The academic focus is ensured, amongst other things, by the Institute for Applied Computer Science (IACS) with its PhD students and professors.
However, exciting challenges await you even before you graduate. The faculty offers a wealth of interesting projects in which you are warmly encouraged to get involved. These include RoboCup, autonomous systems and many others. At the annual IT Security Conference held at Stralsund University of Applied Sciences, you’ll meet established experts and interested parties from across Germany, with whom you can engage in in-depth discussions on IT security.
The standard duration of study is seven semesters, including work placements. The IT Security specialisation focuses primarily on key skills in the fields of network and system security, as well as cryptography. The Mobile Systems specialisation, meanwhile, focuses on software development.
The first few semesters are devoted to foundational training, enabling you to understand the complex systems of computer science. In addition to the compulsory modules, in the fourth semester you will also choose a compulsory elective course, selecting, for example, from Big Data, Cryptographic Protocols, Artificial Intelligence or Computer Graphics. You will gain further specialisation in the later semesters and work on joint projects in teams, amongst other things.
You’ll get a taste of the working world in the fifth semester: this practical semester lasts a total of 20 weeks and is completed off-campus at a company, a government department or an institution.
What type of student are you?
The Bachelor’s degree programme can be studied on a full-time, part-time or practice-oriented basis. This allows the programme to be flexibly tailored to individual needs, such as family and work commitments.
