The energy transition, e-mobility, Industry 4.0 or the information superhighway – many of the pressing issues of our time can only be tackled with the help of electrical engineering specialists. If you’re interested in even just one of these applications in the fields of energy, automation or communications engineering, then you’ll be in good hands studying electrical engineering with us! And what’s more: with a modern campus right on the Baltic Sea, there’s no shortage of fun either!

Further information
Even if you have not received your final degree certificate by the application deadline, you can still apply for a master’s programme with your current transcript of records. This should include the amount of ECTS points that you have already gained by the time of application, the preliminary final mark and the expected date of completion.
General mandatory requirements for admission to the 3-semester Master programme:
- Proof of a first professional degree with at least 210 ECTS-Points in management, economics, industrial engineering, business informatics or a generally closely related degree programme with an average grade of at least 2.7
- and, within the course of the first professional qualification, proof of knowledge in the following fields to the following extent (through official module descriptions of the higher education institution andmandatory admission-requirements form):
- Management - at least 20 ECTS
- Mathematics/Statistics - at least 10 ECTS
- Business Computing/Informatics/Research Tools - at least 5 ECTS
3. Proof of English proficiency (at least B2+ according to the European Framework of Reference for Languages)
4. Relevant professional work experience (internship) before starting the degree programme (internships within the framework of an undergraduate degree shall be credited)

Building on a first degree leading to professional qualification, the Master’s programme in Electrical Engineering provides you with in-depth specialist knowledge in the field of electrical engineering, enabling you to apply scientific methods and findings to difficult and complex problems in both practice and research. The programme’s curriculum is primarily research-oriented and is designed, amongst other things, to prepare students for doctoral studies. You can choose between two specialisations for this programme: General Electrical Engineering and Renewable Energies.
Graduates of the Master’s programme in Electrical Engineering have a wide range of career opportunities, both in large companies and in medium-sized industrial firms, in the design, planning and development of electrical and electronic components, covering both the hardware and software sectors in equal measure. There is no longer any branch of industry that can function without electrical engineering, electronics, computer technology and automation, meaning that graduates can find employment in almost all large companies and in many medium-sized enterprises, regardless of their specialisation.
The Master’s programme lasts three semesters. At the start of the first semester, you will choose one of the specialisations: General Electrical Engineering or Renewable Energies. In-depth modules are taught over two semesters, whilst the third semester is devoted to writing your Master’s thesis. In addition to compulsory modules covering the fundamentals of mathematics, natural sciences and engineering, as well as cross-disciplinary skills such as project management or energy and environmental management, we provide you with application-oriented specialist knowledge on a wide range of topics within both specialisations through compulsory-elective modules.
The Master’s degree generally qualifies you to undertake a PhD at a university.
ECTS & Weekly Hoursper Semester
The ECTS credits (European Credit Transfer System) allocated reflect the workload for the respective module (1 ECTS credit corresponds to 30 hours of study). ECTS credits are used to ensure the comparability and recognition of academic achievements, for example when changing universities.
Semester weekly hours (SWS) refer to the weekly duration of face-to-face teaching for a course. Here, 1 unit = 2 SWS = 90 minutes.
Notes:
*) = One of these two modules must be selected; upon application, further modules from the ‘Interdisciplinary Qualification’ area may also be chosen from other Master’s programmes offered by the Faculty of Electrical Engineering and Computer Science and the Faculty of Mechanical Engineering.
As well as the option to study the Master’s degree programme in Electrical Engineering on a full-time basis, the programme can alternatively be undertaken as a programme with an in-depth practical component or on a part-time basis. This allows students to tailor their studies flexibly to their personal needs, whether these relate to family or work.
