EUNICoast – The European University of Islands, Ports and Coastal Territories – is one of 64 European Universities selected and funded by the European Commission. The initiative aims to create a shared European Higher Education Area and strengthen the international competitiveness of universities across Europe. In addition to Stralsund University of Applied Sciences, the alliance comprises twelve other higher education institutions and universities from across Europe – from the French Antilles to the Azores and the Åland Islands.
What unites all EUNICoast partner institutions goes beyond shared geography. It is the conviction that the sea is not a barrier but a bridge, connecting people, cultures and ideas. The alliance places this vision at the heart of teaching and research. Students develop a deep understanding of the significance of coastal regions, ports and islands, encompassing economic life, ecological balance and society as a whole.
Stralsund University of Applied Sciences has been an active participant from the very beginning and takes on responsibility: as Co-Lead of the Work Package on Mobility and Internationalisation, it plays a key role in shaping the alliance, is represented on the Steering Committee, and takes part in international delegation visits to partner institutions. Its involvement spans teaching, research, community engagement, and digitalisation.
For students and teaching staff, this translates into tangible opportunities: Blended Intensive Programmes, microcredentials, and joint master's programmes are being developed alongside new exchange opportunities and collaborative projects.
"EUNICoast is not a single project, but a strategic framework and a guiding orientation for internationalisation at our university," says Rector Prof. Dr. Ralph Sonntag.
