Admission requirements

Foreign graduation certificates

The direct admission for the chosen discipline depends upon the Secondary School Certificate. It has to be a higher education entrance qualification in the particular foreign country and further has to be recognized as being equivalent to appropriate German qualification ("Abitur" or "Fachhochschulreife").

For applicants, whose Secondary School Certificate entitles only to certain subjects, this subject restriction is also binding for studying in Germany. In case the applicant has already studied a few semesters in the particular foreign country, special conditions for the admission can apply. A direct admission for the same subject is usually possible if the applicant has successfully studied two to four semesters (depending on the particular foreign country).

Applicants, who are holding a higher education entrance qualification from a foreign country which is only conditionally comparable with an appropriate German qualification may also be admitted to a course of study. However, first they have to pass first a preparatory course at the "Studienkolleg" completed by a "Feststellungsprüfung" (university entrance examination). On the study course pages you can find specific admission requirements regarding your prefered course.

Foreign applicants with a German higher education entrance qualification issued by a school in or outside Germany are treated like German applicants according to the admission regulations. They don't need to apply via uni assist, but can follow the steps given in the application procedure.

Please find information about the conditions for being accepted at an institution of higher education in Germany on the website of DAAD.
