Brief description

The Bachelor's degree programme in Industrial Engineering picks up on engineering focuses and supplements them with business aspects. In the first three semesters of the programme, students learn scientific, mathematical and technical fundamentals as well as business skills on an equal footing. This is followed by social science modules on language training, project management and dealing with scientific work. Elective modules from the 5th semester onwards allow you to tailor your studies to your personal preferences; it is also possible to specialise in the new profile lines of mobility, energy systems and modern production.

Another new option is the 8-semester programme with an international focus. This replaces our previous Bachelor's degree programme in International Industrial Engineering and Management. In addition to a compulsory semester abroad, it also includes new modules with an international focus. If you only develop an interest in the international focus during the course of your studies, you can opt for this up to the 5th semester.

In addition to the technical qualification, laboratory experiments and exercises in small working groups as well as the extensive project phases help to make the programme challenging.
In the final semester, the practical phase of at least 12 weeks and the Bachelor's thesis effectively prepare you for your future career.

In addition to direct career entry, the Bachelor of Engineering degree also offers the opportunity to continue the university education in a thematically related Master's programme.

Perspectives

Goals and career prospects

Industrial engineers should be able to recognise problems and processes in the area of conflict between engineering and business sciences, solve them creatively and ultimately be able to assess and evaluate the consequences of their decisions. You are not only specialised in a technological or business qualification, but can also master management tasks in particular with your versatile skills.

The extensive options in the technical field are organised along three new profile lines: Mobility, Energy Systems and Modern Production and are complemented by business subjects. This, as well as the practical and final phase in the last semester, ensures targeted preparation for your future career.

It is possible to complete the degree programme with an international focus. In this case, the integrated semester abroad provides students with intercultural skills that make it easier to take up employment on the international labour market.

The fields of employment are not only diverse, but also numerous. This is because companies continue to have considerable recruitment problems for engineers in their domestic and foreign locations.

The internet platform Absolventa rates the career prospects as very good and gives starting salaries for industrial engineers in the region of 40,000 and 43,000 euros.

Job profiles

As an industrial engineer, you will work in management positions in the following fields, among others:

  • Project management
  • Factory planning
  • logistics
  • Marketing and sales
  • Controlling and investment planning

Door to door with the world of practice

Stralsund University of Applied Sciences is a young campus university with a low average age of teaching staff. We have numerous, very well-equipped laboratories and lecture theatres.

Since its foundation in 1991, Stralsund University of Applied Sciences has been successfully training engineers. Word of this has spread to regional and national companies. Many graduates have successfully started their careers in well-known companies, are employed in senior management and other management positions or have founded their own companies.

Co-operations with regional companies enable you to gain practical experience during your studies through project work or internships.

The scientific orientation is supported by the Institute for Regenerative Energy Systems (IRES) and the Institute for Energy and Environment (IFEU), among others.

Highlights

Company simulation

We carry out a company simulation as part of the programme. In this simulation, you can apply your knowledge and compete with other students.

Excursions

Excursions are important highlights in the course of your degree programme. Visits to companies in the region give you an insight into professional practice. The impressions gained during the excursions then form part of the lectures. We are always pleased to see the interesting insights that the discussions lead to for students and professors.

Certificate "Basic knowledge MTM1"

In addition to the Bachelor's degree, you can also acquire the "MTM 1 Fundamentals" certificate. The MTM method is used in industry to objectively assess and design workplaces. Holding this certificate therefore offers you advantages when applying for jobs after graduation.

I am studying industrial engineering at HOST because ...

Jannik

"... After my vocational training in the big city of Hamburg, I longed for a more stress-free environment with less anonymity and good opportunities for sport and leisure activities in addition to everyday university life.

As a participant in the Airbus graduate programme, I will be able to return to work in this company after successfully completing my studies. In order to be as broadly positioned as possible for this job, I opted for the Industrial Engineering and Management degree programme."

Bianca

"... I wanted to take a chance as a woman in an almost exclusively male domain. In addition, I have always been interested in the natural sciences and this was the best way for me to combine the business and technical fields. The career prospects in this sector are very good, as an industrial engineer forms an interface between mechanical engineering and business administration in a company."

Thomas

"... Stralsund University of Applied Sciences enjoys a good reputation and constantly proves this in the CHE university rankings. As a small campus university, Stralsund University of Applied Sciences also offers ideal conditions for successfully completing a degree programme.

I particularly like the fact that the impression I got at the open day was confirmed. The university is very informal. If I have any problems, whether with the subject matter or organisational issues, I get all the help I need and the entire teaching staff is committed to helping me complete my degree. In addition, the professors maintain close contact with industry, which makes the lectures very practice-orientated."

As a graduate of the WING programme ...

Raimund

"... I was given the opportunity to work at Stralsund University of Applied Sciences as a project collaborator and research assistant in the field of materials technology.

During my practical semester and these two jobs, I specialised in the medical technology sector and now I am investigating magnesium alloys as a future implant material for bone screws and stents, for example.

My friends from my degree programme are now working in management positions in Switzerland, Austria and southern Germany. Many have gone into the automotive industry."
