Industrial Engineering and Electrical Engineering (phasing out)

Bachelor’s degree programme

Industrial engineers specialising in electrical engineering are a unique kind of bridge-builder. On the one hand, they understand business processes and are able to evaluate and contextualise them. On the other hand, they are experts in technical matters. They are well-versed in how systems work and in engineering processes. As generalists, you combine both disciplines, thereby meeting the high demand from the business world. Stralsund University of Applied Sciences equips you with all the skills you need – and, situated right by the sea, there’s no shortage of fun either!

Brief description

The Bachelor’s degree programme in Industrial Engineering: Electrical Engineering (WETB) combines a traditional engineering degree in electrical engineering with elements of business administration. Because we aim to train not only technical specialists but also well-rounded individuals, you will also learn all the skills necessary to work successfully in teams. Interpersonal skills are part of this, for example, as are facilitation and negotiation skills, along with everything else required to work independently, creatively, collaboratively and responsibly.
With our training in engineering and business studies, upon graduation you will be able to assess, organise and optimise business processes from both an economic and a technical perspective.

Outlooks

Aims and career prospects

With its Bachelor’s degree programme in Industrial Engineering (Electrical Engineering), Stralsund University of Applied Sciences is responding to the growing demands of the labour market. In both industry and the service sector, it is not just technical or economic specialisation that is in demand. Many operational roles, and indeed management positions, require generalist, interdisciplinary skills. Our degree programme is tailored precisely to this, with its core modules in engineering and economics, as well as subjects that develop integrative and social skills (‘soft skills’).

Industrial engineers specialising in electrical engineering are equally adept at thinking like both engineers and businesspeople. Thanks to their interdisciplinary skills, our graduates now enjoy excellent career prospects and, as experience shows, many are particularly well-suited to leadership roles later on.

Provided they achieve the required academic results, students can successfully continue their studies in a Master’s programme, either nationally or internationally.

Job profiles

Graduates of the Bachelor’s degree programme in Industrial Engineering (Electrical Engineering) find employment wherever technical and business-related tasks in the field of electrical engineering need to be co-ordinated and resolved, both in large companies and in medium-sized industrial enterprises. For example, in the energy sector, the automotive industry, mechanical and plant engineering, or the software industry.

This may include the following areas of business:

  • Procurement
  • Production
  • Logistics
  • Marketing
  • Sales
  • Management
  • Organisation
  • Investment
  • Data processing
Course structure

The standard duration of study is 7 semesters. In the first few semesters, you will learn the necessary fundamentals of electrical engineering, economics and computer science. Thereafter, further electrical engineering and economic fundamentals and subject-specific knowledge are taught. From the fourth semester onwards and during the following two semesters, you can take compulsory elective modules in the areas of ‘Electrical Engineering’ and ‘Industry and Economics’. This allows you to deepen your knowledge in electrical engineering (automation technology, communications technology, energy technology and renewable energies) and in economics, according to your individual specialisation.

The degree programme is completed in the 7th semester with a 12-week work placement in a company and the subsequent Bachelor’s thesis, which provide optimal preparation for future professional practice. In many cases, a topic for the final dissertation emerges during the work placement, which can then be developed further whilst working at the company.
