Blended Short-Term Mobility

Information

Blended mobility is a mix of physical mobility of different durations and a virtual phase that takes place before, during or after the physical mobility to facilitate collaborative online learning exchanges and teamwork. For example, the virtual phase can bring learners from different countries and fields of study together online to attend online courses or work on assignments that are recognised as part of their degree.
Both students and teaching and administrative staff can use blended mobility for teaching and training purposes.
Short-term blended mobility

  • Students who are unable to participate in a long-term physical mobility activity for personal, family, health or programme-related reasons can combine a shorter physical mobility with a virtual component
  • The physical mobility activity lasts between 5 and 30 days and is complemented by a mandatory virtual component that enables shared online learning experiences and teamwork
  • A minimum of 3 ECTS credits must be awarded, while no additional requirements are set for the virtual component. If no ECTS are awarded for a short-term internship, ECTS are awarded for the workload instead
  • Blended short-term mobility can be funded as part of a Blended Intensive programme, but is not mandatory

Requirements
  • Enrolment at Stralsund University of Applied Sciences
  • Student mobility possible in any programme country or partner country
  • Physical mobility activity must be carried out in a country that is neither the country of the university nor the country of residence
  • Funding is available: Study mobility, internship mobility (also for graduates), short-term blended mobility for doctoral students, certain groups of people for short-term blended mobility
  • Financial support only for physical presence in the host country
  • Up to four additional travel days for sustainable means of transport, depending on certain conditions (Green Travel)
  • Student mobility can be combined with short internships
  • Funding possible across two study phases (BA/MA/PhD)
  • Full-time work is required for internship mobility (SMP); internships at EU institutions are not eligible for funding, but internships at German embassies, Goethe Institutes and German schools abroad are
  • An Interinstitutional Agreement (IIA) is required for university mobility (SMS); no IIA is required for internship mobility (SMP) at universities, unless funded as an SMS

The following can be funded:

  • Student mobility for study purposes (SMS), possibly combined with an internship
  • Student mobility for internship purposes (SMP), also for graduates
  • Short-term (blended) mobility for doctoral students
  • for certain groups of people to be determined by the university, short-term blended mobility for study or internship purposes (e.g. summer schools, summer universities, etc.)
Duration and funding

Short-term blended mobilities require a minimum duration of five days plus a virtual component, but may not exceed 30 days, except for doctoral students, for whom no virtual component is required.
For short-term blended mobilities, students and graduates receive EUR 70 per day for the first 14 days of physical mobility (this amount will increase to EUR 76 from project 2023) and EUR 50 per day for the 15th to 30th day (increased to EUR 56 from project 2023). For students and graduates with fewer opportunities*, there is an additional one-off amount of EUR 100 for short-term (blended) mobilities for physical mobilities of 5 to 14 days and EUR 150 for mobilities of 15 to 30 days. An additional top-up amount for internships as part of short-term blended mobilities is not offered. Students and graduates with fewer opportunities* receive a travel allowance for short-term mobilities:

10 to 99 km             23 EUR
100 to 499 km         180 EUR
500 to 1999 km       275 EUR
2000 to 2999 km     360 EUR
3000 to 3999 km     530 EUR
4000 to 7999 km     820 EUR
8000 km or more    1500 EUR

Students who do not claim travel assistance have the option of opting for "green travel". They will receive a one-off grant of EUR 50 in addition to their individual support and up to four additional days of individual support for the additional time spent travelling to and from the event, if applicable. Staff who choose sustainable travel methods can receive additional individual support for up to four days for travelling to and from the event, if applicable. In total, it is therefore possible to receive up to six additional days of individual support for travelling: two days for standard travel and four days for sustainable travel. Participants must provide proof of the need for these additional travel days.
For both groups, one travel day before the start and one travel day after the end of the activity can also be covered by the individual support, regardless of the choice of sustainable travel.

*Fewer Opportunities: Additional financial support for students with fewer opportunities
For short-term blended mobilities, students with fewer opportunities receive an additional amount of EUR 100 for physical mobilities of 5 to 14 days or EUR 150 for physical mobilities of 15 to 30 days in addition to individual support.

No insurance cover is associated with an Erasmus+ mobility grant.
Students who are funded through a DAAD programme have the option of using the combined health, accident and personal liability insurance provided by the DAAD for students.

Blended Intensive Programmes

Information

Blended Intensive Programmes (BIPs for short) are a specific form of mobility programme in which institutions from at least three different countries work together to coordinate organisation and implementation. These programmes offer a unique opportunity for participants to experience cultural diversity, develop intercultural competences and deepen professional knowledge. Below we will take a closer look at the features and benefits of BIPs.

Blended Intensive Programmes offer students (SMS) and university staff (STT) the opportunity to participate as learners in short-term group mobility activities (5-30 days) in combination with a virtual phase. The duration of the virtual mobility phase is flexible and can vary according to need. The physical mobility can take place at the host institution or at another location in the country of the host institution. For such a short-term blended mobility, students (SMS) must be awarded at least 3 ECTS credits.
BIPs aim to widen the opportunities for learners to participate in Erasmus+ initiatives. BIPs can be integrated into existing university curricula or complement them. They can either be completely new programmes or extensions of existing programmes with additional features, such as blended teaching formats.
