Health insurance and accident insurance

Students are generally required to have health insurance and, in accordance with §199a SGB V, there is a reporting obligation between health insurance companies and universities. For enrolment, a statutory health insurance company must have communicated the insurance status of each student applicant. Under "Health insurance" you will therefore find further information that is important for a digital notification as well as other general information that may be relevant for the insurance status.

In addition, students are covered by statutory accident insurance during their education and training at the university. Under "Accident insurance" you will therefore find further information on the cases in which this insurance applies and how you can report an accident.

Health insurance

The new digitalised student registration procedure replaces the previous paper-based registration and will be implemented by Stralsund University of Applied Sciences from 01.01.2022. From this date, paper registrations can no longer be accepted.

Enrolment:

The transmission of an applicant's insurance status will be made at the applicant's request -> No enrolment will take place without proof of health insurance.

If you are insured with a statutory health insurance company at the beginning of your studies, please contact your statutory health insurance company, quoting our enrolment number H0000327, who will report your insurance status to us digitally.

or

If you are insured with a private health insurance company at the beginning of your studies, please contact any statutory health insurance company using our sender number H0000327, which will confirm the existence of private insurance to us digitally.

General information:

Students who have reached the age of 30 do not generally have to register. Students up to the end of the 14th semester are no longer subject to compulsory insurance and can continue to take out health insurance voluntarily, but no longer at the favourable student rate.

Students who are co-insured in the statutory health insurance of their parents, spouse or other dependants are exempt from contributions. The age limit for this family insurance has generally been set at 25 years. A period of military or civilian service extends the family insurance by the period of compulsory service.

Students who have private health insurance and wish to be exempted from student health insurance must submit confirmation of private health insurance to a statutory health insurance company and apply for exemption from student health insurance. This exemption is valid for the entire period of study and cannot be revoked.

Accident insurance

If you have an accident while working at the university, please complete the relevant accident form and send it to the Student Secretariat. You can find the accident questionnaire here: Accident report for students

In addition to the statutory health insurance, the statutory accident insurance offers the advantage that it supports you in the healing process after an accident (e.g. through transport and travel costs) as well as in the reintegration into everyday life (e.g. motor vehicle and housing assistance). It also offers further benefits such as injury benefit to compensate for loss of income and, in serious cases, a care allowance and/or accident or survivors' pension (further information on the DGUV website).

In order to be covered by statutory accident insurance, there must be a substantial internal connection between the education and training at the university and the student's work; in the case of students, this connection only exists with regard to study-related activities that are carried out in direct temporal and spatial connection with the university and its facilities.
The accident insurance covers, for example, attendance at lectures, seminars and tutorials, participation in excursions in Germany and abroad organised by the university, activities in student self-administration and visits to the university library, but work and study in the private or domestic sphere is not covered by the accident insurance of Stralsund University of Applied Sciences.

Should an accident occur outside the scope of the statutory accident insurance, you are covered by your health insurance, as is usually the case in the private sector. For more comprehensive cover, you have the option of taking out private accident insurance.

Information for all student teams on accident insurance:

Working in student teams, especially racing teams, is generally not covered by the accident insurance of Stralsund University of Applied Sciences.
The work is predominantly organised independently and is also for the most part not essentially internally related to education and training at the university, which is why this work does not fall within the scope of insurance of the statutory accident insurance.
If accidents occur during these activities, you are only covered by your health insurance. For more comprehensive cover, you have the option of taking out private accident insurance.
