De-registration and exmatriculation

De-registration

Students can be de-registered if

  • they submit an application for de-registration in the current semester
  • they have successfully passed the final examination
  • they wish to change universities

In these cases, students apply for de-registration using the corresponding E-HOST application.

Students are de-registered if

  • they have definitively failed an examination in a degree programme in accordance with the valid examination regulations
  • they have not completed re-registration despite a reminder
  • they do not provide proof of currently valid health insurance
  • there are other reasons for the cancellation of enrolment or de-registration

In these cases, de-registration will be carried out ex officio by the Student Administration Office.

Your membership of our university ends with de-registration and you will receive your de-registration notice by post.

The legal basis for de-registration is regulated in the current version of the State Higher Education Act and the enrolment regulations of Stralsund University of Applied Sciences.

Exmatriculation

During a degree programme, it may be necessary for various reasons to interrupt studies for up to two semesters and to apply for an exmatriculation in accordance with § 13 of the enrolment regulations of Stralsund University of Applied Sciences.

(1) The student can be released from their studies on application for good cause (exmatriculation). The application is usually made within the re-registration period (§ 12 paragraph 1) for the coming semester. Exmatriculation semesters are always full semesters. They are only granted retroactively in exceptional cases (i.e. after the re-registration deadline for the desired semester of leave). Semesters on leave count as university semesters but not as subject semesters.

(2) As a rule, an exmatriculation can be granted for up to four semesters in total, but no more than two semesters in total. Exmatriculation for the purpose of caring for and bringing up a child does not count towards the duration.

(3) Students' rights and obligations remain unaffected during the exmatriculation. Examinations and coursework can only be completed during the period of leave of absence in exceptional cases with the authorisation of the university management. The application to complete examinations and coursework must be submitted to the Department of Study and Examination Affairs.

(4) Membership of the self-governing bodies of Stralsund University of Applied Sciences shall lapse in accordance with the Basic Regulations of Stralsund University of Applied Sciences (§ 10 para. 1 no. 7 GrO) upon commencement of a semester of leave.

(5) Important reasons that can demonstrably lead to an exmatriculation are in particular:
1. an illness of the student documented by a medical certificate that makes it impossible to study properly; § 6 paragraph 2 no. 1 of these regulations remains unaffected;
2. a practical activity serving the studies;
3. studies at a foreign university without recognition of study and examination achievements
4. completion of a recognised voluntary service, in which case appropriate proof must be submitted;
5. Pregnancy, maternity protection and care of a child during periods in which the student would be entitled to parental leave in accordance with the Federal Parental Allowance and Parental Leave Act of 5 December 2006 (BGBl. I p. 2748), as amended;
6. Care and support of persons who are dependent on the student;
7. Absence from the place of study in the interest of the University of Applied Sciences or due to participation in a research project;
8. Significant time burden due to participation in committees of the student body or the student union provided for by law or the statutes.

(6) As a rule, a leave of absence for the first semester is only possible in the cases of § 13 paragraph 6 no. 1, 4, 5, 6.

Important notes:
Under certain conditions, you have the option of a partial refund of the semester fee: Application for a refund
During a semester of leave of absence, you will not receive any benefits under BAföG.
