Requirements and deadlines

The General Student Advice Office is pleased to help with any queries you might have regarding applications and admissions.

Online applications start:

  • For winter semester: at the end of April
  • For summer semester: at the end of November

Please take note of the application deadlines and the documents that you must submit by post after making your online application. Applications are usually only possible after you have received the certificate of your higher education entrance qualification (usually secondary school leaving certificate).

In degree programs without admission restrictions (no NC) there is no limited number of study places. As long as the personal admission requirements are met, you are guaranteed a study place. Enrolment can be done easily (without having to appear in person) for winter semester from 01/06 and for the summer semester from the 01/12 onwards, as soon as all of the required documents have been submitted in full by post.

For degree programs with admission restrictions (NC), applicants will receive a written Letter of Acceptance or Letter of Rejection by post by the beginning of August for the winter semester and by the beginning of February for the summer semester. The Letter of Acceptance names the deadline (cut-off period) for submission of documents for enrolment. It is not necessary to appear in person for enrolment.

As soon as you are enrolled, you will receive your first Certificate of Enrolment and all of the important information for the start of your studies.

Master
General requirements

General requirements

Nearly all master’s programs (exept Medical Information Management/ eHealth and Tourism Development Strategies) can be started in the winter or summer semester.

The Study and Examinations/International Division checks whether the application documents that have been sent are complete and the formal requirements have been met and sends them on to the Admission Commission of the respective program of study. This then examines the candidate’s suitability for the program and decides on admission. The candidate then receives a written notification per post.

A successfully completed undergraduate degree, usually a bachelor’s degree related to the desired program of study is a prerequisite for admission to a master’s program.

Even if you have not received your final degree certificate by the application deadline, you can still apply for a master’s program with your current transcript of records or proof of ECTS points that you have currently already gained, the preliminary final mark and the expected date of completion. If you receive a study place, you are admitted conditionally.

Access to the degree program might also depend on further requirements that are named in the examination and study regulations of the respective master’s program. Please inform yourself accordingly in good time.

NC Procedure

NC Procedure

The allocation of study places – Numerus clausus and waiting periods

The following study programs have admission restrictions (NC) for winter semester 2018/19 and summer semester 2019:

  • Leisure and Tourism Management – Bachelor
  • Management of SMEs - Master

Admission restrictions are enforced if there are more applicants for a study program than available study places. The NC procedure is a special selection procedure that is used to allocate the available study places fairly. The NC values are recalculated after every application procedure and do not constitute valid minimum grades that last for several semesters. They could change in the next application procedure.

Don’t be put off by the NC value and waiting periods! Firstly, when you apply you will not know what the values will actually be after the application procedure has been completed and secondly, there is also a succession procedure. Several prospective students for a study program apply to various universities and might therefore decline their allocated study place.

If there are still study places available after the succession procedure has been completed, a study place lottery (clearing) might also be used to allocate the remaining places. This could also be your ticket to success!
