Institute of Renewable Energy Systems

The Institute of Renewable EnergySystems founded by over 30 scientists from the University of Stralsund on the 14th January 2009 structures the joint commitment in applied research and practical oriented teaching in the fields of renewable energy sources and hydrogen technology at the University of Stralsund.

The goal of the scientific institute is the interdisciplinary research, teaching and training and the technology transfer in the area of modern energy systems with focus on:

  • Use of renewable and alternative energy
  • Energy conversion, storage and use
  • Modelling and automation of related processes
  • Economic and environmental aspects of such energy systems

Laboratory | Research

Laboratories | Research Complex Laboratory Alternative Energy - KAE

The institute's central research laboratory is the Complex Laboratory Alternative Energies (KAE), founded in 1995. The laboratory is used for internships in the fields of electrical engineering, renewable energies - electrical energy systems, mechanical engineering and industrial engineering.
It provides the technical basis for demanding research projects and student bachelor, master, diploma and PhD theses.

In the field of application-oriented research, it is possible to experimentally investigate stand-alone systems in the field of regenerative energies. The focus here is on the use of bioenergy and the use of hydrogen in internal combustion engines, fuel cells and catalytic burners as well as its production by electrolysis dar. The existing database allows simulation calculations for energetic hydrogen applications.

Shell Eco Marathon Team

ThaiGer-H2-Racing Team

Since 2007 we develop light racing cars with which we compete in the yearly Shell Eco-marathon Europe. Students of all faculties of the University of Applied Sciences, Stralsund come together with the goals to deepen their practical knowledge and to get more experience in different kinds of departments. The development of processes for “green-car”-building, management and publicity are only some of the aspects that we cover and offer. And so, for this year’s winter semester beginning, we were again overjoyed to welcome many new faces to our team and cause.

 

And the most important: We are European Champions 2017 and 2018!
