Requirements

Even if you have not received your final degree certificate by the application deadline, you can still apply for a master’s program with your current transcript of records. This should include the amount of ECTS points that you have already gained by the time of application, the preliminary final mark and the expected date of completion.

General requirements:

Completed first degree in electrical engineering, energy technology, renewable energies, mechanical engineering, physics or related degrees and

Proof of knowledge in the following fields (e.g. official course description as provided by the university):
- Measurement technology of at least 4 hours per week for one semester or 5 ECTS points and
- Control engineering amounting to at least 4 hours per week for one semester or 5 ECTS points and
- Fundamentals of electrical engineering amounting to at least 4 hours per week for one semester
  or 5 ECTS points and
- Electrical machines amounting to at least 2 hours per week for one semester or 3 ECTS points and
- The usual mathematical foundations underlying these fields and

An average mark of your bachelor's degree of at least 2,5 (For marks 2,6 and below a motivation letter in German or English (approx. 500 words) and, if applicable, further proof of the subject-specific and program-specific qualification have to be submitted) and

Proof of English proficiency (level B2 according to the European Framework of Reference for Languages)

and further requirements depending on the duration of the study:

3-semester Master REEMM = Applicants with a first degree of 210 ECTS-Points

  • An undergraduate degree with at least 210 ECTS-Points
  • A relevant internship of at least 12 weeks or professional experience (internships during undergraduate degree will be credited)
If no internship has been completed, this must be provided before you register for your master’s thesis.

4-semester Master REEMM with internship = Applicants with a first degree of 180 ECTS-Points

  • An undergraduate degree with at least 180 ECTS-Points

4-semester Master REEMM without internship = Applicants with a first degree of 180 ECTS-Points

  • An undergraduate degree with at least 180 ECTS-Points
  • internships of at least 12 weeks (internships during undergraduate degree will be credited)
If no internship has been completed, this must be provided before you register for your master’s thesis.

Short Description

Rethinking the energy supply and use of tomorrow requires scientific methods as well as insights and practical experience to successfully solve difficult and complex problems in research and practice. Based on mathematical-technical basics and with the help of comprehensive qualifications, you acquire theoretical and application-related competences in elective modules. In the master thesis you can prove these scientific competencies, abilities and skills.

The focus of the study contents is scientifically application-oriented and should  to teach the qualification for a doctorate at a university.

This master's program is offered in entirely English.

Perspectives

Goals and Career Prospects

Renewable energy and e-mobility – these are particularly innovative, rapidly growing and future-oriented sectors in Germany and abroad.

A rethink in the area of energy supply and use is indispensable in times of climate change and finite nature and instability of fossil fuel supply. Particular attention is given to the use of renewable energy sources such as solar radiation in PV and solar thermal systems, biomass, wind and hydropower as well as the development alternative storage concepts and electric vehicles. The electrification of the automobile can be a major step towards avoiding the consequences of climate change and at the same time a major step towards the future competitiveness of our automotive industry. The new study program is designed to address these future topics and help to meet the growing need for engineers.

Graduates will be able to uses scientific methods and analyses for solving complex problems in both practice and research. The Master‘s program offers a number of optional modules in the fields of renewable energies or electromobility. In addition to compulsory modules based on mathematical and technical principles as well as interdisciplinary qualifications, application-specific expertise is conveyed in elective modules on different topics of the two focus areas.

And after the graduation?

With the degree "Master of Engineering" you are qualified to work different following fields. These include among others: renewable energy production and use, energy storage, electromobility, automotive industry. You can work in the areas of basic research, development, application of new technologies as well as construction, commissioning and service. You are also suitable for middle and senior management of companies and can also fill a position in the higher service of public institutions.

Potential field of activities: research and development, controlling, project, middle and senior management

Program Structure

We offer our master program Renewable Energy and E-Mobility in two different variants, each of which differs in duration. Depending on your academic background (first degree), the Master can be reached in 3 or 4 semesters:

  • 3-semester Master's degree (first degree: 210 ECTS credits)
  • 4-semester Master's degree (first degree: 180 ECTS credits)

ETCS & Teaching Hour per Week

The allocated ECTS (European Credit Transfer System) points mirror the workload for the respective module (1 ECTS point is equivalent to 30 hours of work). ECTS make is possible to compare and recognise study achievements, for example if you want to transfer to or from another university.

The teaching hours per week (SWS = Semesterwochenstunden) represent the weekly teaching hours of one course.

1 unit = 2 SWS = 90 minutes.

Explanation:

*) = One of these two modules has to be selected. Upon request, additional modules from the pool of "Interdisciplinary Qualifications" can be selected from other master programs of either the Faculty of Electrical Engineering and Computer Science or the Faculty of Mechanical Engineering.

Elective Modules:

AO = application-specific profiling;

F = freely selectable profiling
